Halcrow was consulted to provide technical expertise for DFID’s
support programme in response to the aftermath of Pakistan’s
devastating earthquake in 2005. Technical services that were
provided as part of the Emergency Bridge Programme include:
- Preparing plans in discussion with local governments and
relevant authorities to ensure timely completion of the bridging
programme
- Conducting a survey to assess the feasibility of bridge sites
and subsequently recommending suitable sites
- Preparing complete construction drawings of the sub-structures
for a number of selected sites

The development work has initiated the replacement of 50 bridges,
which were either lost or severely damaged in the quake. On the
basis of this performance, DFID awarded Halcrow Pakistan the
supervision of bridge construction activities between January 2008
and June 2009.
