Spinal rehabilitation trainingENGAGE Team: Mott MacDonald
Providing technical assistance to the Chinese government in post-disaster recovery and reconstruction planning following the Wenchuan earthquake in May 2008.

Activities covered capacity building, participatory planning for infrastructure rehabilitation, and support for the re-establishment and improvement of specific services.

Disaster risk reduction, sound environmental management, pro-poor planning and women's empowerment underpinned all activities. Specific programmes included training in emergency management, physiological rehabilitation and spinal injury rehabilitation, village level environmental planning and support to improve the design and management of rural water supply facilities.
